PHOTOCULTURE Conversations #23: Colin Westerbeck

Colin Westerbeck has authored many books and essays on photography, including Bystander: a History of Street Photography, co-authored with Joel Meyerowitz. He was a Curator of Photography at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1986 through 2003, and taught photographic history at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California from 2004 to 2008, and again in 2017. From 2008 until 2012, he was Director of the California Museum of Photography at the University of California, Riverside. We talk about the vast realm of street photography and the role of luck in a noteworthy and rewarding career.
