Ruth Berliner is a Greek-American who was raised in Los Angeles. Berliner began her working life in the field of interior design. However, she later transitioned to CFO of Berliner Photography and BE Images, which she co-owned and operated with her husband, Alan. The firm primarily serviced the entertainment industry by specializing in all facets of celebrity and event photography.
Ruth and Alan have been collecting photography since the early 1980's.
Michael Dawson | Dealer Representative/Advisor
Michael Dawson is a private dealer and appraiser specializing in rare books and fine art photography, including historical photographs of California and the Southwest. Michael has written widely on photography and has owned and operated his own gallery as well as the celebrated Dawson's Books Shop in Los Angeles–a business established by his grandfather in 1905. He is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, and the Association of International Photography Art Dealers.
Paula Ely | Co-Chair, Programs & Events
Paula Ely is Vice President of Kazmark Entertainment Group, a television programming consultant for major advertising agencies. She is also an award-winning documentary film producer, and is currently in post-production on her latest project, THE MONEY STONE. Paula and her partner Cesar Rueda have been collecting fine-art photography for more than ten years, with a focus on Latin America.
Michael Hawley | Vice-Chair
Michael Hawley has a background in the fields of publishing, film and online media. He has been creating content for the Internet since the mid-1990s, from People Magazine Online to e-commerce sites. He currently creates websites for major studio films. Michael was raised outside the United States in Australia, Asia, Europe, South America and the Middle East and is a graduate of Stanford University. His eclectic photography collection has been growing since the early 1990s.
Roger Hill | Co-Chair/Programs & Events
Roger Hill is Managing Director of Berkeley Street Associates, a Los Angeles-based real estate consulting firm specializing in the multifamily marketplace. His background in real estate and finance covers more than 40 years experience. He and his wife Barbara have been collecting photography for about ten years, with their eclectic holdings ranging from vintage black and white to contemporary color. The most recent additions to their collection were acquired on a trip to Havana, Cuba.
Richard Krelstein | Treasurer
Richard Krelstein is a Management Consultant specializing in solving business problems for small to medium size businesses. Richard also provides consulting for startup companies. He has served on a number of not-for-profit boards in various capacities, and currently has just passed his tenth year as a certified SCORE Mentor. Richard and his wife has been collecting photography since the early 1970s.
Mary Maffei is a longtime animation producer and is currently working on a feature film in Montreal. Mary’s interest in photography started in high school on the East Coast, when she was lent a Leica and attended the Maine Photographic Workshops. After graduating from Colorado College, she began a career that has always centered on visual storytelling, starting in advertising and magazines and ultimately spanning TV and film. For many years, Mary was a magazine photo editor in New York, working with top photographers. In 2000, a job opportunity at DreamWorks brought her to California. Mary is passionate about travel and California has been a great base from which to explore -- and photograph -- Asia and South America. Mary is currently on a leave of absence while working on a film project in Canada.
Jeanne McConnell has been a business lawyer with an emphasis on finance for over 25 years. She has volunteered and held leadership positions at various non-profits in Los Angeles. She and her husband Mack are enthusiastic members of PAC and its photographic arts programming.
Marjorie Ornston | Public Relations
Marjorie spent 25 years in the Public Relations industry working in media relations, marketing, financial PR and Internet ecommerce. An early photographer’s representative in New York, Marjorie has been collecting photography – both mid-century and contemporary - since the mid 1980s. She is a member of the Getty Museum Photo Council and a supporter of Artis, raising awareness of contemporary art from Israel.
Dennis Reed | Chair Emeritus/Secretary
Dennis Reed is a curator, writer, director, artist, and collector. He has curated over 50 exhibitions, large and small, and is best known for recovering the lost works of Japanese American modernists from the 1920s and 1930s. Reed has written for the Getty Museum, Stanford University, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. He has won a number of national design awards. Works from his collection have been included in many exhibitions internationally. Before his retirement, he was the Dean of Arts at Los Angeles Valley College, where as Professor Emeritus he continues to teach the history of photography.
Leslie Rubinoff | Outreach
Leslie Rubinoff has been advising art collectors for the past 12 years. Paying particular attention to the personalized nature of art acquisition, she has helped build collections from the ground up as well as supplemented the collections of more seasoned collectors. Leslie has also worked with galleries, websites and magazines in various creative capacities. Throughout her career she has been an ardent supporter of the arts as well as numerous charitable organizations. Leslie and her husband have been focusing their recent efforts on expanding their collection of sculptural and emerging art.
Bob Turbin | Special Projects
Bob Turbin is a native of Los Angeles, he received an architectural degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Bob incorporated his creativity and his organizational ability in residential real estate development throughout California for nearly forty years until his retirement in 2008. He has been involved in collecting photography since the mid 1990’s.
