A Conversation with Alejandro Cartagena
Friday, September 10 at 3:00pm (PT) | Virtual Artist Talk & Conversation
NFTs (non-fungible tokens) have been a hot topic in recent months, with headlines reporting individual sales in the millions of dollars. What is this trend all about? How does one “own” a digital work? How does the blockchain work? Does this devalue the traditional photographic object? What’s the impact on artists? Join us for a conversation with artist Alejandro Cartagena as he helps demystify the NFT market and shares his experience in this emerging space.
Alejandro lives and works in Monterrey, Mexico. His projects employ landscape and portraiture as a means to examine social, urban and environmental issues. His work has been exhibited internationally and is in the collections of several museums including the SFMOMA, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Portland Museum of Art, the Museo de Arte Moderno in Rio, Brazil, the Fototeca de Nuevo Leon, Mexico and the Fototeca Nacional in Pachuca, Mexico.
