Founding Directors
Gloria Katz Huyck
In November of 2018, we lost our esteemed colleague, Gloria Katz Huyck. Gloria was the Chair of PAC LA from its inception, guiding us through our transition from LACMA to become a flourishing, independent non-profit organization. Her clear vision, humor and unparalleled agile mind helped us grow as a nimble, broad-reaching force in the photo community. Gloria set the highest standards for PAC LA and never stopped imagining our potential as an organization.
Bob Turbin
Bob brought his business acumen to PAC LA for seven years until he stepped down from the Board in 2020. Along with his wife Carol Vernon, Bob brought a deep knowledge of photography to PAC LA and a steady understanding of navigating the nonprofit world. Bob is a native of Los Angeles, and has been involved in collecting photography since the mid 1990’s.
Carol Vernon
During her tenure Carol was instrumental in building the infrastructure of our organization, securing our non-profit status and creating our plans for growth. PAC LA continues to rely on Carol’s invaluable advice in her role as an emeritus member of the board. Carol began collecting photography in the mid 1970’s alongside her late parents, Marjorie and Leonard Vernon.
Dennis Reed
Dennis Reed is a curator, writer, director, artist, and collector. He has curated over 50 exhibitions, large and small, and is best known for recovering the lost works of Japanese American modernists from the 1920s and 1930s. Reed has written for the Getty Museum, Stanford University, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others.
Paula Ely
Paula stepped down as President of PAC LA at the end of 2023. Her tenure ushered in enormous changes within the organization, leaving us prepared for our coming years of growth. Paula’s leadership was strong and outward focused, directing PAC LA to be ever-more inclusive and open to the broad LA community. Paula and her partner are leading collectors of photography from Latin American artists.
Richard Krelstein
Richard stepped down as Treasurer of PAC LA in the fall of 2021. As a founding Board member, Richard’s involvement reached back to the LACMA days. With a deep background in finance and the non-profit world, Richard played a crucial role in establishing PAC LA as a vibrant, financially stable organization.
Roger Hill
Roger served on the board through the summer of 2020. Roger was crucial to PAC LA’s success and standing as a non-profit in the photo community. He and his wife Barbara’s photo collection has eclectic holdings ranging from vintage black and white to contemporary color.
Stephen I. Reinstein
In 2017, the Los Angeles photographic community lost one of its most committed advocates with the passing of our colleague and friend, Steve Reinstein. Steve was a major contributor to our organization's growth. He was also a former chair of PAC when it existed as a support group for LACMA’s Department of Photography. We miss Steve greatly.
Retired Board Members
Eveleen Samayoa
Eveleen served on the Board for three years, culminating with her becoming Chair of the Resource committee until her service ended in 2024. She was instrumental in our development of new grant and donor funding opportunities. She currently oversees major gift fundraising for the arts at the University of California, Riverside.
Marjorie Ornston
Marjorie served for six years as a valuable member of the team, stepping away from the board in 2023. She enthusiastically built and supported the programming slate of PAC LA. Margie’s most recent contribution was her coordination and presentation of one of the organization’s greatest successes, A Picture A Minute, an online experience inspired by Agnès Varda.
Mary Maffei
Mary spent six years as an integral member of the board. Her career as a producer brought special skills that guided and organized our complex membership rosters, helping to build PAC LA into the organization it is today. She is currently residing on the East Coast, and still maintains her interest in and support of PAC LA.
