Von Lintel Gallery is pleased to present the second solo exhibition by artist and photographer Christopher Russell.
For a number of years Russell has been exploring variables in his landscape photography practice, experimenting with both material and physical intervention. With a variety of surgical studio tools, razors mostly, he scratches away at the glossy surface, like scratchboard or linoleum block. With this intricate technique, he creates further variation across the photographic surface, adding layer and depth to the now enhanced image.
Russell was born in Sacramento in 1974. He has exhibited at the Hammer Museum and selected group exhibitions include presentations at The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach, FL, Tokyo Institute of Photography, and the De Appel Arts Center in the Netherlands. The artist lives and works in the Pacific Northwest.
Von Lintel Gallery is in the Bendix Building, 1206 Maple Avenue, Room #212, in Downtown LA. Street parking is available along with parking in the building.
After our visit at Von Lintel you are encouraged to visit the many other galleries in the building: Track 16, Durden and Ray, Ladies' Room Los Angeles, JOAN, and more.
We hope you will come join us to view these beautiful and unusual artworks and spend a lovely afternoon downtown.
